Custom Machine Building: Screw-Fastening Systems
Prior to placing an order, Plarad conducts free project-specific consultations and prepares a project outline, requirements specification, and functional specifications to serve as the basis for concept development and the preparation of a proposal. Once the order is placed, structured milestones are defined for mechanical engineering, electrical design, and software development – including a design freeze – divided into mechanical engineering, control concept, and user interface and operating concept.
Plarad develops and supplies custom bolting systems for a torque range starting at 500 Nm. Our product range extends from auxiliary devices for our standard products to fully automated bolting systems.
Before Placing an Order
(at no cost to the customer)
- Individual, personalized, project-specific consultations with the client.
- Preparing the Project Outline – The project outline summarizes all relevant information, including details from emails, phone calls, meeting notes, etc.
- Development of specifications in collaboration with the client
- Based on the scope of work and the project outline, a requirements specification is created that describes in more concrete terms how the requirements will be met.
- Concept development and coordination with the client, taking into account the client’s technical and economic requirements.
- Concept presentation and discussion with the client ; proposal based on the concept development
After the order is placed
Plarad sets appropriate milestones for coordination, based on which the client conducts detailed coordination regarding mechanical design, electrical design, and software development, including the respective design freezes.
Workflow (Process) for Special Projects
Milestones 1: Mechanical Engineering Design
Milestones 2: Control Concept, Control Cabinet, Electrical Design, Packaging
Milestones 3: User Interface, Ergonomics, Operating Concept
Selected Completed Projects:

Autonomous Screw-Tightening Robot
Plarad has developed, for and in collaboration with Broetje Automation, a mobile platform featuring a Comau NJ-165-3.0 robotic arm and the Plarad end-effector.
The system handles loads of up to 165 kg, offers omnidirectional movement at speeds of up to 1.4 m/s, and uses laser scanners for autonomous control. Tools such as tensioners or torque wrenches can be easily attached to the end-effector. The modular design improves automation processes and serves as a driver of innovation.

Torque Testing System for Rotary Slide Valves
VTD ValveTorqueDirect
Torque and angle testing device up to 500,000 Nm. Torque testing of valves is an essential testing procedure to ensure the high quality standards of ball valves. Checking and measuring the torque during rotation of the ball valve makes it possible to detect defects and confirm the proper functioning of the ball valve. All manufacturers supplying ball valves according to API and ANSI standards must perform these tests. Torque tests can be carried out on the main shaft of the valve (direct drive) or on the actuator (geared drive).

Lifting and Handling Device for Tensioners
The HV1power is an innovative lifting device made of high-quality aluminum, specifically designed for the ergonomic and safe handling of tensioners. Thanks to its lower weight and smooth-running guide, it enables quick and efficient movement from one bolted joint to the next, even in hard-to-reach work areas. The customizable design offers maximum flexibility to meet a wide range of customer requirements while significantly reducing the physical strain on operators.
